Kevin's Interview

1. How long did you live as a woman and how were you initially introduced to the transsexual lifestyle?

I was introduced to the lifestyle when I came out of the closet at about 16. My mom was very accepting so she had her friend do my make up for the first time for Halloween. I was a french maid. I went to a club with a fake ID and no one recognized me. They all said I looked just like a woman. It was the first time I felt like someone - like my life mattered. I saw drag queens at that club and they were treated like celebrities. I thought "wow I want to do that".

2. Society glorifies the trans life but what were some of the challenges you faced while living as a woman?

There's NOTHING glorious about it. First of all it's VERY difficult to find work as a transsexual so most end up prostituting because they have to live. I would say now days it might be a little easier. Second, as far as a love life and finding a life partner to take you serious is difficult because men think of you as an object, something taboo so they treat you like a fetish instead of a human. It's all about the sex to them.

3. As a drag performer, how difficult was it to let go of your fan base and the party culture that came with it?

My biggest struggle was letting go of the party scene. I grew up going to clubs from a young age. I had been doing drag for YEARS. It was my identity. I had my own shows. I loved being an entertainer. Letting go was the hardest thing I had to do, but I had to lay that old person, Dominique O'hara Skyy, to rest. Now I have started a radio show where I discuss how to live a Biblically moral life in a post modern society. We also discuss controversial topics in today's society. It will air every Wed. on Fishbowl Radio Network (online radio) from 7-9 in the Green Bowl.

4. Do you remember the moment you decided to give your life back to God? Briefly describe.

I realize now that God had been pursuing me for years but I never realized it. I got saved 4 years ago on Easter Sunday at Elevate Life in Frisco, TX. I went to church because it was Easter and everyone goes to church on Easter. I went and they did a hip hop version of the resurrection of Christ. I was like, "Wow Jesus did all that for me and all I have done for Him is be a heathen." I just prayed and read my Bible. I thought I would be a gay Christian, but the more I read the Bible and the more I developed a relationship with God, I felt conviction and asked the Lord to take away my attraction to men and to heal me from gender dysphoria. Eventually He did!

5. What would you say to a trans woman who feels trapped in the lifestyle and wants to be free?

I know your feelings are real. I know you feel that you were born in the wrong body but the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. He robbed you of your identity. He will take away all your desires and give you new desires (2 Cor. 5:17). God loves you and I love you and if you ever need someone to talk to I am here for you.

6. Any last thoughts?

We all have to live in eternity, it's your decision where you will live for eternity.
